A Senior Services I-RIDE vehicle on the road, used to drive seniors to medical appointments and errands.

Chesapeake · Franklin · Norfolk · Portsmouth · Suffolk · Virginia Beach · Isle of Wight · Southampton

Rides, meals, and support for seniors close to home.

Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia helps older adults and family caregivers in eight communities stay independent, with real people who answer the phone.

What we bring

Help for the whole day, not just one errand.

  • Rides

I-RIDE takes seniors to medical appointments, dialysis, and errands across the region. Veterans can ask about Veteran Transportation, and Isle of Wight residents can ask about the Windsor Fixed Route.

  • Meals

Home-delivered meals reach seniors who cannot easily cook or shop. Hot meals and healthy-eating programs are also served at senior centers.

  • Senior centers

Centers across the region serve meals and run classes, games, and shopping trips, including the Hayden Village Center in Franklin with its community garden and on-site medical suite.

  • In-home care

The Homemaker Program and Personal Care bring help into the house. Options Counseling and Care Transitions help a senior and family sort out what kind of care is actually needed.

  • A companion

The Senior Companion Program pairs a homebound older adult with an active senior volunteer, so someone who is often alone has regular company.

  • Medicare and benefits

Free, unbiased counseling helps seniors compare Medicare plans and find prescription drug assistance.

  • Caregiver support

Respite care, a Senior Companion, and Adult Day Care give family caregivers a break while a senior stays safe and cared for.

  • Wellness and staying active

Wellness classes, fall-prevention programs like A Matter of Balance and Bingocize, and Walk With Ease help seniors stay active and steady.

  • Advocacy and the Ombudsman

The Senior Advocate Ombudsman looks into concerns about nursing homes and assisted living, and No Wrong Door helps a caller find the right resource on the first call.

  • For veterans

Free rides to VA clinics, and Veteran Directed Care, which lets an eligible veteran manage their own care budget.

The work, most days

What a day looks like.

Most mornings, I-RIDE drivers are already on the road, taking seniors to dialysis, therapy, and the grocery store across Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Isle of Wight, and Southampton. A hot meal reaches a door that would otherwise go without one. A Senior Companion sits with someone so a family caregiver can go to work. At the Hayden Village Center in Franklin, the lunchroom fills for Bingocize and conversation.

None of this happens only at an office. It happens on a porch, in a passenger seat, and at a kitchen table.

Make a gift

A gift here stays here.

Donations to Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia fund rides, meals, companionship, and benefits counseling for seniors across Chesapeake, Franklin, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, Isle of Wight, and Southampton.

Or see what a gift paid for last year, or call 757-461-9481 to ask about other ways to give.

Records and reporting

Real documents, real reporting.

Senior Services publishes its Form 990, Title VI plan, and agency brochure, along with news from around the region. This concept's document library and news index carry that forward.
