Senior centers

Places to go for meals, classes, and company.

Senior centers give people a reason to leave the house: games, meals, classes, shopping trips, field trips, and holiday celebrations, plus Nutrition Counseling with a registered dietitian.

The largest of these is Hayden Village Center in Franklin, the historic rehabilitation of the former Hayden High School: 28 affordable apartments built for older adults, an on-site medical suite available to lease, the Della Hayden Community Garden, and meeting and event space, alongside a full calendar of wellness, fitness, and social programs. The garden and the building both carry the name of Della Irving Hayden, the daughter of a freed slave, who graduated from Hampton University in 1877 and founded a school for African American girls in Franklin in 1904.

    Meals, games, classes, shopping trips, and holiday celebrations at senior center and wellness sites across the region, with Nutrition Counseling available from a registered dietitian. Transportation to a center may be available through I-RIDE.

  • Hayden Village Center, Franklin

    28 affordable apartments for older adults, wellness education, fitness classes, and an on-site physician's office, in a renovated former high school.

  • Hayden Medical Suite

    A furnished medical suite at Hayden Village Center, available for a physician's practice to lease, with a waiting area, exam rooms, and a clinical lab.

  • Della Hayden Community Garden

    A community garden at Hayden Village Center where residents and neighbors grow and share fresh produce.

  • Event rentals

    The Hayden Village Center gymnasium, conference room, and activity rooms are available to rent for private, corporate, or community events.
