Celebrating 50 Years of Service in 2022
Story
In 2022, Senior Services celebrated fifty years of service and marked the official grand opening of the Hayden Village Center in Franklin, a renovation of the historic Hayden High School building into affordable senior apartments and a community center.
The agency's roots go back further than that. It started in 1968 as the Senior Citizens Service Center, took the name Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program in 1972, was designated the Area Agency on Aging for the region in 1973, and became Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia in 1997, the name it carries today.

- Incorporated as the Senior Citizens Service Center, a nonprofit serving seniors and caregivers in South Hampton Roads.
- 1972
- Renamed the Southeastern Virginia Areawide Model Program (SEVAMP).
- 1973
- Designated the Area Agency on Aging for the region.
- 1997
- Renamed Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia, the name it carries today.
