Companion
A friendly, regular visit for someone who is often alone.
The Senior Companion Program pairs a homebound older adult with an active senior volunteer for regular visits, conversation, and the occasional trip out.
Companions do what friends do for friends: they visit regularly, offer conversation, and are happy to provide a quick trip to the doctor's office, the grocery store, or a local event. The program, funded by AmeriCorps, also gives a family caregiver a break, some time to work or attend to their own needs while a companion is there.
