Scam Alert: Meals on Wheels Phone Scam

Scam Alert ยท August 14, 2024

Story

Senior Services has received reports of a phone scam targeting home-delivered meals clients. Callers claim to represent Meals on Wheels and ask people to verify their home address, phone number, and the last four digits of their Social Security number, then threaten to stop deliveries if the person does not cooperate.

These calls are fraudulent.

If you get one of these calls Three things to do, in order.
  1. Know what a real call never asks. A real Senior Services employee, or a real Meals on Wheels representative, will never ask for a Social Security number over the phone.
  2. Give nothing out. Do not give personal information to a caller you did not contact yourself, no matter what they threaten to stop.
  3. Report the call. Tell local law enforcement, and report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov or 1-877-382-4357 (TTY: 1-866-653-4261).
